Serwis Metacritic postanowił podzielić się z użytkownikami podsumowaniami najlepszych gier 2021 roku w oparciu o swoje dane. Rankingi podzielone zostały ze względu na platformy (kolejno: PC, PlayStation 4/5, Xbox One i Series X/S oraz Nintendo Switch) i ukazują, jakie gry zarówno gracze, jak i krytycy pokochali w tym roku.
Kryteriami, jakie musiały spełnić produkcje, aby zakwalifikować się do podsumowań, były: otrzymanie minimum 7 recenzji wystawionych przez profesjonalnych krytyków oraz premiera w okresie od 1 stycznia do 31 grudnia 2021 roku. Jeśli gra pojawiła się na dwóch platformach jednej marki, np. PS4 i 5, to w rankingu brana pod uwagę była ta wersja, która otrzymała więcej opinii od recenzentów.

Najbardziej ciekawi to, ze RE Vilage zbiera sporo GOTY ale jeżeli chodzi o oceny to się na PS załapało na 28 a na PC na 44 miejsce.
Za to ma średnia powyżej 80 zarówno od graczy i recenzentów a to świadczy o dobrej grze (wiele większych premier tego roku miało duży rozstrzał pomiędzy ocenami redakcji a graczy).
