Reducing the number of logical processors via MSCONFIG to 8 processors fixes the problem temporarily, though, and allows Risen 3 to run without a problem:

- Go to Start (Windows button in the lower left-hand corner)
- Type MSCONFIG in run box
- Click on 'Boot' tab button then 'Advanced options'
- Click on the box that says 'Number of processors', then set the cores
- Restart your computer and the game should work.
